National Youth HIV & Aids Day (4.10.16)
This year I am a 2016 National Youth HIV and Aids Awareness Day Ambassador (long title I know) but my mission is to continue to educate my peers (specially the youth 15-25) about HIV Awareness and prevention and the importance of getting tested! With the mass amount of stigma behind HIV in our community and health disparities throughout the nation, its very important to me to be one of the voices that help destigmatize these issues that keep us from staying healthy, safer, S.E.X.Y.(Sophisticated, Empowered, Xtraordinary, You).
As an artist, I wanted to utilize my love for doodling as a tool for social change. Check out my cool and informative doodles below and please be sure to share it with your social networks. Most importantly encourage your peers to get tested!
Doodle #1
In 2014, 44% (19,540) of estimated new HIV diagnoses in the United States were among African Americans, who comprise 12% of the US population.
Among all African Americans diagnosed with HIV in 2014, an estimated 73% (14,305) were men.
YOU have the power to change that.
Get the facts. Get tested. Get Involved
Doodle #2
African American/Black women account for 63% of HIV infections among young women ages 13-24 even though they make up only about 16% of that population.
YOU have the power to change that.
Get the facts. Get tested. Get Involved
Doodle #3
80% of new HIV cases among young people 13-24 occur among youth of color. Only 1 in 5 sexually experienced U.S. high school students has ever been tested for HIV.
YOU have the power to change that.
Get the facts. Get tested. Get Involved
Doodle #4
Many young people, even those with high-risk behaviors for HIV, have never had an HIV test and are unaware of their HIV status.
YOU have the power to change that.
Get the facts. Get tested. Get Involved
Doodle #5
In 2014, 1.2 million people died from HIV-related causes globally.Youth of color and young men who have sex with men continue to be the most at risk for HIV.
YOU have the power to change that.
Get the facts. Get tested. Get Involved
National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day is April 10th! Let's continue to educate the public about the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people and learn more about how you can help put an end in the fight against HIV/AIDS at http://www.cdc.gov/features/youth-hiv-aids/.
Please share the message & encourage your fellow peers to get tested. The earlier the better.
